peck peck dance ensemble Sean McMahon and Sarah Sass first worked together while studying choreography at Ohio University, Athens. She was a lowly freshman and he, a world-wise sophomore when they became friends. He tried really hard to corrupt her; she was amused by his antics. In April 2002, Sean convinced Sarah to move to San Francisco. peck peck dance ensemble was formed in 2002 as a means to produce their work. Since that time they have shown their work throughout the Bay Area, in ppde's annual season, as well as group shows and residencies. McMahon and Sass have collaborated with one another, created their own work in both traditional venues and as well as site specific works. They have been produced by Mission 17 Galleries, and served as Artists in Residence at the Jon Sims Center for the Arts and Resident Artists' Workshop at the Garage.
Sean McMahon
Sean McMahon, originally from Utah, holds a B.F.A. in Dance from the Ohio University Honors Tutorial College, Athens. In addition to choreographing continually since his arrival to the San Francisco Bay Area in 2000, he performed with AXIS Dance Company for 4 years, as well as Huckabay McAllister Dance, Christine Cali, EmSpace Dance and many others. During his time with AXIS Dance Company Sean had the opportunity to work with Victoria Marks, Ann Carlson, Sonya Delwaide, Margaret Jenkins and Kim Epifano. He choreographed a trio for AXIS, and taught people of all ages and abilities. Sean has also taught creative dance, composition, and technique on his own. He currently teaches for Luna Kids Dance.
Sarah Sass
Sarah Sass earned her B.F.A. in choreography at Ohio University, Athens. While there she showed work at ACDFA. As an undergraduate, she received a research grant to study at Movement Research in NYC. She is currently dancing for Christy Funsch, and performing solo work. In addition to creating her own performance work, she has also performed in work by Sean McMahon, Christine Cali, Kate Corby and Dancers, Deborah Slater Dance Theater, Huckabay McAllister Dance.. She has taught dance with Luna Kids Dance for the last 5 years.
